#208 - how many rooms to the heart?

28.7.20
208
how many rooms to the heart?

I will paint you
no stone unturned
but certain lines of fruitless enquiry

it has a kind of mansion mist
to wonder where I’ve been

shouting room to room…
your shout

house taller than the wind it is
roof drips through
a trail is left

all random architecture
built on a lie like love

‘should the stove be on?’
a yodel

Chinese boxes, Russian dolls
room of the omiyage

how many rooms and where are you hiding?
we sardines and this our tin

keep moist and stretch the skin

most private where I take off your dress, unbra
elastic loose down
release the beast
a downstream drift
forest selves away

room of the treetops then
clouds come

days couldn’t be more naked
still tearing down to flesh

and after, driven from the rain
verandering, relieve myself
be taken in with view

great hearts
and brave
and faint as well
gravelly voice
and risk

going out
may not be back for some time

having dreamt us there
where once we met
(little chamber of horrors)
facts face me but I brush them off

I write it up
I rug the floor

of course so tangled too
thus lost
rats run
was with whiff we went
taste blood, follow
come to the poem in love
(a kind of garden indoors)

all our ever building houses
every inch in the heart
lean to
so
come to the poem in love
with time stood still
viola slow

the rhapsody of corridors
and often lightless
you could be anywhere

open a window – fresh air

have hearts in spades
then after diamonds
take to the club

trip stage
and bowl the breadrolls, Bertie

do deathbed scenes, give birth
family!  help!  get me out!

there must be some kind of way
a journey to the centre
and bottom of this sea
stumped

over the hills and far far better
one of us at least

consider care home
cave retreat
let things come out in the wash

each mood its room

came here to lose the battle
and lick my wound, won’t you?
that’s lovely

surrender
you climb on

it was a wish
rhetorical

demented wander of it was
boomerang too
it’s me – I’m back

sometimes too green
the meadow lies
but I translate myself

an inventory of words
eke
a store room where we keep the craft
so long forgotten

every other language is lovely
over the edge we
why even speak?

how many chambers?
who else is here?

will we echo after
could be quite a crowd
and counting

then I suspect myself of a crime
until the penny drops

an every instant
puzzle self

behind closed doors
all scheming
frantic
filling out forms fill out
rubber stamps
chase paper and now on-line

a room
for the spinning wheel of death
where we have forgotten
will forget
where were we?

hall of doors and mirrors
traps
creep through the ventilation shaft
walls close in
though rubberized

look for the mail
and I show up like a bad penny
long since the divorce

the heart is a church as well
all prey
upon

little window in the door
blinds up
peer in
it’s a sitcom
sand through the hourglass

and we have a serious side

whole cities sunk to love
a wicked cobalt blue
storms of
went down in the piano
fishing
not expected back

I found you in the compost pile
meaning we are weeds or worse
we garden only for the gnome

chewed and through
together
and all at sea

a light through the woods
is my heart come home

we live towards the unexpected
where I know that you will be

#207 - skedaddle or somewhere else in my life

27.7.20

207

skedaddle

or

somewhere else in my life

when I will be home

thing shining

and rejoice

a timberlick of forest was

cul de sacs

and hidey holes

many ways to go

no keys

no cash

no phone

none call

just all among the day

which is a catch your balance thing

and have your sayso there

sneak by

as it was until

set off by adventure

even July has a middle

peer through static

thing missed

and tumble of all

set self a tone

the bees if I can

and choose to say an hour

I take up with the afternoon

iron gates thorough

come to a slowdown

blue a sky up

in dreams

all dances to the garden

streaming then

as if we were guessed

here’s the spot

rains come

when I will wash my brushes

will you find me

take up puzzle

?

far down in these clothes the animal is

an arrow after

cartoon corners round

make me a mystery

that’s for the vanish

I fear a cliché comes

try it moonlessly

you all of you were there

last in the ridgetop

westering

where the sun is still

nice loaf

and love the little breezes wrunga

rickety

ramshackle

hullabaloo

thing shining

and rejoice

woke up late

and they’d had day

I feigned unconcern

trod path’s here we are

#206 - whole world of rain

26.7.20
206
whole world of rain

this winter was
and where I’m now

roof runs the stuff
a hat drips off

mud grubby misted
puddle up

and here we are again
tea too
underbrim lovely dry

throw bow at strings
we’re off
slosh
words of the tale
are a deluge like this
the track till creek

vorpal as once dreamt for
monster, ogre, jabberwock
you were there

feather it till drip with
stay safe in the pouch
or underlog

be pages in the book
firelit, feet up, hotch
and cheese-on
lunch it

warmer in the undercloud
and bank it in a tank

#205 - moonshot

25.7.20
205
moon shot
not quite apostroph

of course the moon is
rabbit struck
rolling
old man
and witch it too
(Selene snoozing)

George Méliés takes aim
like mud in your eye
or a cake thrown

careful with everything to touch
it must have a dark side too
giant mushrooms!

(capture a few of the alien insects)
something smaller than we saw
are the inhabitants

often gone but will be back
it was untimely torn

still it is a mirror to shine
and silver in the dust close up

does ocean up
and heaves the weed

colours for what reason?

Earth’s older
gets to be green
if we allow

a moon is biscuit bit
and bone

rounder than many an asteriddle
and this one’s ours by name

some call a little clockwork from it
vacuumed, packed
the music’s dry

middling with its month

moon’s all hung about with stars
and just about forgotten

it must be like that gone-ness
to which we go

come Rover
go on have a howl

where’s that cat?
who’s chasing?

#204 - vertigo - nystagma - BPPV

24.7.29
204
vertigo – nystagma
or
BPPV
one for the organ recital

come from wobbly
need to slow, steady on
little chill to begin

hold bung, round and round
and here we go again
there really is no pill

there’s knowing the signs
took my head for a spin
and the world was perfectly still

ping of the tender nerves
like a string goes twang
we can call them crystals

bout of, dose of, say ‘attack’, ‘relapse’
world’s horizontal hold went
somebody read me a poem then

the exercises! an act of will
to mend God’s act (a k a luck buggered)
tilt and start again

little mortality
a nip at the heels
remember me? still here!

how many fingers I am holding up?
always a sleight
how many horses?

a merry-go-round
but I’ll get back on one
I made hay while the sun shone

there’s any least brightness
might just
bear us away

#203 - in the after truth

23.7.20
203
in the after truth

where much forgetting

some were diagnosed with it
bitter best
and telling

on a short leash
could still chase tail
have a snap at
whose heels?

you had to read it between the lines

cadences and rush to finale

a waltz around
ask
who was that masked man (?)

so all aglow for glory was
a foot on the neck until …
and say the name so sacred
yes we always will

lay down where we left off

ramshackle truth!
the new house I dream every night

was bright shining once
went everywhere for free

it stood serifed was once sung to be
had to remember then

came with crackling on the rind
and through static too

a lie for instance

the truth has been shut down
was costing too much

we were all telling
buried in an open pit

it’s seldom though noticed
we’ve survived
everything till now

a little nippy out
but woke to a lovely fire

we always were midst of much
iniquity makes this din

now the Cretan liar is king

#202 - upstairs in winter

22.7.20
202
upstairs in winter

afternooning
among the notebooks lately lost

everyone’s upstairs waiting for me
doorless, overhung

where I have dreamt to paper
now gather to assert

where I’m puzzled in
under glass and tin, in timber, jumper
seasonally adjusted

all rise to
little eyrie
suntrap
what’s that tune up the stairs with me?
giant’s treads

squeeze daylight from cloud
days forget us

old socks off on the rack
overheads, walls
who steps the tin above?

how heavens are suspended
no one gets older up
in time beyond the possible
back in the book
where once left off

it was raw time told
a forest dawn all day
you only have to look out

unmasked!
I make a document of self and breath
up warm in branches
same words always after me

downstairs the cold comes up from the floor
a clock chews through
you can hear it

but this is the sun realm
higher, close
a chimney stillness till

and through smoke
I made myself
crafted so many words gone

will other heads be so lost
as in my vanish here?
