seeing as far as the dark
once we were so much
like the others
curled under wing
creeping to heights
a scratch the same
we had skin
we too heaped the
leaves
as love as fear
teeth!
paint slapping
all this for whim
scratched up a name
and can you imagine
the sun shone so
there wasn’t what
anyone called knowing
and yet there wasn’t
a doubt
their voices much as
ours were then
it wasn’t a question
of feel this or tell
before the box of
tissues
still this soulful
howl
before there was
this ‘I’
or Mozart,
Shakespeare
any hero
we were much the
same
a scratch
hearts high
seeing as far as the
dark
