what’s
the point ?
or
priorities
what’s the point?
I hear this all the time
it’s practical, it’s existential to ask
never blame someone for asking a question
if that’s what it really is
what difference can I – can we – make?
o – hopeless, hopeless
world is fucked
the first words in the first language might have
been these
and, before that, a groan expressed it
a pained look
did they shake heads then?
everyone likes to have a good wallow
partake of their poison
take their minds off of things
well, I have to ask you
what’s all this head apparatus for?
why bother being embodied?
‘bother!’, some say
and everything, good and bad, comes from this
having once bothered
how do you think we got here?
forget the why just for the moment
let’s just go basic
fire, the wheel, a roof overhead
what’s the point of a road if there’s nowhere to go
?
if it’s underwater half the time?
and the rest you’re driving through fire?
why have a house if it just burns down
if the roof blows off
if it washes away ?
what’s the point ?
can we make any difference?
I can feel the fat breeze of the cynical sigh
…
well where do you think the vote came from?
somebody stood up for that way back when
the government might not be great
but it beats having having thugs just break down
your door
all that pesky safety stuff at work
it’s good having arms and legs, don’t you think?
and a forty hour week … and …
and glad I don’t live in the cholera swamp
asbestosis, silicosis
glad someone put on the old thinking cap
and cured a few diseases
don’t love big pharma
but glad for vaccines
but why call it air if you can’t breathe the stuff?
what’s the point of a river of toxic sludge
no fishing without the fish they say
you think you can buy your way out of this ?
just more and more and she’ll be right
like the graph of the market points up to the stars
remember – consume – be silent – die?
what’s the point of another dollar when all you can
buy is filth
and you broke somebody’s back to get it
I’m glad somebody once stood up
seems like it’s time to stand up again
suppose it always has been
few things not quite right
you might have noticed
less of all kinds of creatures
less forests, less trees
remind me again – who makes the air potable?
yes, you guessed it –
more of us and our dozers and chainsaws
our pets and our bullets
less trees – there’s less to breathe!
ocean’s bung
your blood’s all wrong ?
what’s the point of a pub if there’s no conversation
cause all you can hear is the pokies
there hasn’t been respect, has there?
… for first peoples, for trees, for creatures, for
truth
if we can’t respect each other then we can’t respect
ourselves
what’s the point of knowing what’s wrong and how to
fix it
o I see?
you think yll just bugger off somewhere
get a new world going ?
well let me tell you
Venus is a tad too warm …
guess they kept going with the poison
the years are too long on Mars
you couldn’t call it Spring on Jupiter either
that gravity’ll kill ya
I think this place is it
and you might well say
what was the point in the first place
the big bang and all that?
why bother with this world, this life ?
nobody asked to be born
but we’re here
look around
you’ll see
no Planet B
what’s the point of anything
next breath, you name it
why bother even knowing
who says the world is round?
let’s say
first things first
what’s the point of knowing what’s wrong and how to
fix it
if you won’t stand up to say
if you don’t get up to act
?
