something in a minor key

 

I have decided to take on unimportant tasks

to do a little a lot

                              and less

to do a whole lot less

at least to do less a little

at least to try

 

I have decided to be little

(think of this a kind of a diet of the mind

and, like diets, it’s unlikely to work)

 

sway, bend, play, resist a little

mainly take the merrily stream

 

to do a little touch up, trim

live lightly

 

sprinkle so conjure

crops rise

or for flavour

 

many places continue to be

this could be one for while

 

I dreamt where I was

but the day came to me

 

consider how brief the candle

how never a corpse for long

 

it’s all towards a lessening, life

what troubles we make on the way!

 

I am biting off less than I can chew

and less of a bite than a slobber

 

nobody died for my schnitzel today

and I feel quite good about that

 

suns and moons and seasons

come back

we say forever though not quite

it’s never like that with us

but there’s a trail where we sign

 

I am having a little rain revel

I lie in wait for sunshine
