and dance like a wave of the sea
poem titled with a line from Yeats
for Dora Arampatzi
and friends
‘we grew up
in summer together’
friends
through generations
come to
explore
forest and
island
stony
trails, sand shores
and take to
the blue
so deep, so
round
swim till
nearly dissolve
we grew up
in summer together
had to
share a towel
were
sundried, mainly
golden!
and call
out to them now
‘be careful
with that sea’
were salted
like the kalamari
lemon
squeeze, delicious
come
dancing
like a tune
to its
strings we were
a beard and
trident ruled the waves
and
sometimes raging still
what was in
the radio then
fills the
heart till now
and hearts
are full for each other
it doesn’t
matter how far
kids and
houses
spouses,
strain, work, worry
all vanish
on the beach
school’s
ending
now here’s
freedom
visits so
often you know
soon hot
again
stood
lovely in the rain
now sun
and no
towel needed
heavy the
vines with time
fruit bends
the branches
there may
have been other seasons
but we grew
up in summer together
and night
so starred with passion
have you
noticed how
in our
conversation
same stars
no years
have passed at all?
ah but I
see your glass going down
friends, then
let’s have a drink
