#82 - happy days

22.3.20
82
happy days

here we are in the plague time again
it’s the one between famine and fire
as foretold

and all alive
how otherwise read this?

all these reminders
a world as is
unfictioned
and stranger

as if it had been necessary
to prove it round and one
and here we go again

one sea of air and all joined up
a wash up – smoke, now this

give self a little shake

carpe diem
that’s an order
dance
shoot your own feet

cobwebs grow over the doors and the gates
the car, any aircraft about

pot of gold
you planned to retire with
you may follow it into a deep dark hole

or
turn down the volume
now where were we before?

we can still go out in the sunshine

still breathing
listen
hear your heart

when I am called to the garden
bare hands to battle the weeds

and find the four leaf clover
locate the bee’s knees
here and we’re over the rainbow

flies dropping like humans now

when I am brought to book
dig out the back of the pantry at last

pull the planet out of the box
plenty of time to read the instructions

spill the age and start again

plenty of time to do as you please
time for everything now

enough to be home
to feed on what was

keep my own cobwebs
and window wide
be over the rainbow
safe

and come to the closing
every line could be last

but everywhere is further
now that we can’t go

light gets into little corners still
let a breeze through your head
and gone

#81 - look at you

21.3.20
81
look at you

for a lullabeast, for Snoozy

in kingdom little

perfect skerrick
furry bounded
cat that got the cream

may I offer
one more cup of sleep
of what is it
I can’t remember?

bowl and sup
panfried, stir
soup deeps
who lives in there?

bathsworth
just a drowning

a thimbleful
of dream

#80 - corona-boner

20.3.20
80
corona-boner

it is the fascist’s wet dream
no gatherings of more than one idea

miasma!
here’s dizzy with

blame others
different looking, sounding

trust only a circle of skin
before too late
get in!

a panic

filthy every other is
you wouldn’t want them breathe on you

my otherhanded respiration
that’s sweet life into

make my machine
a drum will beat
make marches

those strong surviving

might I thus rouse you to a whim?
exchange of mucus mine

it’s pure

the little deaths are far away
that’s how I feel with you

and witness, willing, giving
won’t?
yes you will
bend over for

I die
so ejaculated
as in a nineteenth century novel

I die
I spend

the vital essence precious
as in a dream
I will

#79 - for everyone after all

19.3.20
79
for everyone after all
after Holub
thinking of Clark Gormley

everyone I ever met
made me someone else
other than I’d been
better and worse
kind of a marriage with
moment to moment
a marriage with everyone
and might have gone this way
and might have gone that

vast estates under my microscope
every bet I hedged till here I am
or on my way still

gods cursed and all the bolts hurled back
always in trouble
just being myself

between the griefs, my distance

everywhere I went has to have been my home

every house I dreamt where when I am growing up

in every breeze shot through
each bliss was beaten into me

in each tree’s reach
I must have been the bird

the empire in my all extent
and out the window everyone

all the creatures I’ve eaten, crops
and here to save our lives

all the harms I did
joys brought
darling thoughts

all the suns have lit my way
words intended, accidental

in all the soaring, operatic
each shame in which love deepened
truth of the went-by world
all earned

everyone I ever knew
names that placed
the trill and guess again

all these things around and gone
no choice
I call my very own

#78 - how does a thing begin?

18.3.20
78
how does a thing begin?

well it’s been building up inside of me
for I don’t know how long
             – the Beach Boys

in entrails for a confirmation

we have evolved, or will, to it

one could say all anticipation
rarely up for sun’s rise

consists of

wake in the damps of it
then you know

sweat it out
feed, starve

contagion
consider how the ball bounces

notice other parts are alright
all the cheerful reasons sing

it is bounded at a point however
spectacle, pariah, both

when you recognize phases
know it’s begun

consider the symptoms
they look you over
take temperature and pulse

can’t measure what was always there
wait for a pattern
perhaps there’s none

was business as usual before
(hindsight wonders)

has phases, almost moods
and in its own right
often off the chest or cuff

consider a disarray
it must be made of
for a contrast

puns and rhymes with a family resemblance
the kind that all miscegenate

notice the weather as well

will winter be ready for us?

all come from that place, how else?

lucky lucky bastards breathing

the garden inwardly and sigh
already on the next page
stars fell where it began

I have seen those
tail twitch fellows
come midst
bearing the sunbright
strokes of fresh day
as all unknowing
this chatter in which
cannot even tell
their own names

#77 - under the weather

17.3.20
under the weather

and crumple up, blow
the world’s unwell

I could have told you
you should have known

think of things touched, wiped
we don’t go out
we’re hidden here

have you seen the shadow
on the world’s lungs?

what good a pitch
but fever

upside
less smog
more to breathe
fewer will die this way

once you could shit on the shore
no one would see
the tide would take it away
that’s how few we were

do you know what the world’s come down with then?
I think it must be us

#76 - exit, pursued by a bear

16.3.20
76
exit, pursued by a bear

when we were at the top of the graph
do you remember the view?

it was always something steep ahead

up to the gods
no wonder dizzy
and what goes must come

it was beneath notice then
crops to feed
smoke over which we rose
so much merely assumes
it’s just now we know
that was high fever

rode on the horns
carved steaks as we went

say somersault

and if we took a tumble then
dust off and over
all in the dance

here’s a thread to follow
come through the maze that way

one thing led to another then

when we were well and high and holy
all that we could eke

who knew the world was ice cream
would so soon melt
?

we’d come down with the forever and evers

made a puddle of ourselves
now grim and grit

learn a lesson
make a life of it

water and mulch
the seeds are there
sure
we’ll see the rocket up
