happy days
here we are in the plague time again
it’s the one between famine and fire
as foretold
and all alive
how otherwise read this?
all these reminders
a world as is
unfictioned
and stranger
as if it had been necessary
to prove it round and one
and here we go again
one sea of air and all joined up
a wash up – smoke, now this
give self a little shake
carpe diem
that’s an order
dance
shoot your own feet
cobwebs grow over the doors and the gates
the car, any aircraft about
pot of gold
you planned to retire with
you may follow it into a deep dark hole
or
turn down the volume
now where were we before?
we can still go out in the sunshine
still breathing
listen
hear your heart
when I am called to the garden
bare hands to battle the weeds
and find the four leaf clover
locate the bee’s knees
here and we’re over the rainbow
flies dropping like humans now
when I am brought to book
dig out the back of the pantry at last
pull the planet out of the box
plenty of time to read the instructions
spill the age and start again
plenty of time to do as you please
time for everything now
enough to be home
to feed on what was
keep my own cobwebs
and window wide
be over the rainbow
safe
and come to the closing
every line could be last
but everywhere is further
now that we can’t go
light gets into little corners still
let a breeze through your head
and gone
