for goodness’ sake
obligatory Christmas
medley
I saw three ships
all carrying coal across our horizon
with a plonk nose Santa omniscience
merry merry ding dong
put up a tree
hung the lights
cicadas louder
rest ye
mercy mild
save us all from
a retail psychosis
a kiss under the cameltoe
and deck our enemies to boot
later, through dark glassly
nothing dismayed
numbers wobbly out the window
with four out-of-control bushfires
five unprecedented storms
twelve biblical plagues
one ice shelf melts
a ten meter rise
where’s partridge to land?
hang a star
can you follow?
where’s Noel?
he’s tallest
much maudlin nostalgia
from well of grief
in comfort is joy
as for those who hear the angels sing
Christmas is the day of the gone
each has a lovely nook nostalgia
as shepherd is to crook
abhore, deplore, ignore
o come let us
flock by night
for Christmas bulbs
all heartspoke
a bauble, a bon bon
the coldest of jokes
manger it, gather round
let no one speak of religion
fire up the yule log
rest merry, yes, you bet
try not to fight or throw food
like the python, lie low to digest
do you think the original meaning’s
been lost?
slay the bells
and end this folly
where are the beetles
of childhood now?
hot spurs
to lash the reindeer on
merry merry ding dong
twelve days
and the tree
and the lights
come down
tralalalala
Christ, what a bore
