as if squint
ekphrastic for
David Davies’ 1905 ‘Cornish Village at Sunset’
coming into autumn
a gate, a window
tree leant
chimney
all these leaves to fall
downpipe to take
colours of light
some days as if found in the palette
a last sun rots
this bright patch of wall
built things left to crumble
white bonnet
busying
I, behind, before
come, go
no sign of the sea
