in time where we are
ekphrastic for Noella Mora Solvez’ installation Farming
at the Seinäjoki Taidehalli, September 22
we were all of them
and we still are
herded on and in
fish and four paws
bubbles blown
to dine to mate to part
that’s us!
green come to graze
a sea wrap bent right round
at the dead
what fun!
and once when worm
a roosting cooped
perch nervous
far from nature
eyes all everywhere
we slaves of the dance
the voice before
when I was a battery hen
to lay
when I was a cow and still am
in all the distance of it, speck
how can we
have been
everywhere ?
it’s only so long we do these things
ant as far
when we were the invisible air
who’d see us?
the voice before the words
or meaning
when I was stone
before that, star
it’s nothing done alone
we each are every one
still are
this is our only home
