Lake Eacham

a circumambulation

 

path like a vine run round the trunk 

as many parts water

as we are 

 

everything here built 

building to fall 

 

least wings

and these paws delicate forward

vicious, holding to feed?

 

the lawyer vine – wait awhile – jangganyu

a python tangle imitation 

all forest in real time 

 

here’s turkey for scratch

and lap below 

here’s breeze

and everywhere’s half way round 

 

step off the track 

and the day is gone 

 

roots run like plumbing acoss

and of course this is what it is 

 

sometimes leaf flutter

or wings as green 

here is the puppy pandanus

 

covers the old eruption

 

now boulderscape, maidenhair

kauri and candlenut  

balconies of fungus too 

 

trees take down to the lake to drink 

and there are ones you can walk into 

made out of the falling 

and hold the falling up 

 

a bird, the colour of the track 

goes, almost unseen, across 

 

all of one mind we’ll never know 

because we are all a part
