the language of the dinosaurs
to an old Pangaean tune
is lost
but we still speak it
it’s Ur
guttural
hard not to rhyme
all jungle thump
and one day coal
monosyllabic
some say even yappy
not much more than
eat shit fuck
express your joy
go again
for conquest
just the one continent then
they’re the bells
the prayer to call
the logic is insane
the language of the dinosaurs
is everyone’s and no one’s
(intangible cultural heritage)
clocks all set to
disaster impending
dinosaurs on the piano
dinosaurs do the blues
are aspirational
everyone’s their pet

a coo and hoot
a skin of song and plumage
                          dance!
little hats for certain letters
o careless with their loves
evolving over a cliff
Fred Flintstone, Betty, Bambam, Pebbles
what belches! farts! resounding far
so much of ours is them
the stem!
and every little worry
the rudeness of the dinosaurs
where they are all alone
behind a jungle!
muddy, nude
fetching bone
and in a hiccough hurry
saurian serenade
what did they say?
the language of the dinosaurs
(as functional as any)
is all about the weather, war
we’ve opened up a franchise
a whisper away –
DINOSAURS ARE US

though everyone must die
the main thing is survival
we shrink down the ambition
sprout little wings and fly
