in the tree to tree birds are 

for a part of something else

 

trees were an age after ice

now we are

breath by breath

 

have halved them

in ten thousand years

faster and faster

wish away

 

ages have been named after an axe

 

though they have brought down forest giants

ants will climb to the tip of the uttermost leaf

even especially upside down

no vertigo in their day

 

it was somewhere around the time of Captain Cook

or the later invasion

humans on this planet came to outweigh the ants

 

it all seems so senseless

or rather their explanation is the thing done

 

will work the darkness in the wood

until the tin is down

then anyone could come under

antechinus for example

snakes hunting out of the rain

 

and after, eyes up for a song

cast sunshine to feathers

 

build a house as long as I live
