love beam

 

I was asked to explain the love beam

 

eye to eye ideally

for instance over beaker

in principle anywhere

does go unnoticed at times though

 

wholehearted when best bliss

where day grows into the room

or fire casts glow against the snow

and we’re all snug inside

 

the painter canvasses just such

the poet stands tip toe

 

love beam is a destination

and love beam’s where we’re from

must pin all hopes on it

 

loose orbits shift tides

and at perihelion

best to wear protection

 

some beams laser like directed

some a general cast

 

there are flare ups

you get needy

 

it can take some yoga too

there are athletic beams

as in the ballet

contortions so the crowd can see

arabesque penché

or consider a fish dive lift

 

it’s how possum takes to tree

how joey how fits the pouch

 

it’s where each in the other’s arms

draw back a little then to look

at whom you cherish now

 

but the love beam must have been there all along

else how come into play

 

yes, some have sprung from a book

others proscenium arch

 

re-set by virtue of unbalance

it’s why the blood goes round

world too

 

a love beam twinkles up the stars

 

before and after acts of creation

it’s always best to beam

a cloud can be

on day of the right kind

the stream and its positive ions

comes in a crescendo

might wait a whole week for

major swell to cadence

paradiddle, millstroke too

then all at sea for a shanty

but make mine stronger please

because it never lasts   

 

the beam, I mean

 

and some say it will save us

some say lights the world

 

makes life a kind of wallpaper

and you’d be long lost but for

who knows where a next beam casts?
