‘imagine’

50 years on from John Lennon’s recording

the simple thing, so hard to achieve

                            – Brecht

no steeple

but today’s the day

it’s the first thing telling of dreams

mine, yours

and gently now gently

out of the crow-call dawn

imagine un-tribing

just we in our skins of fresh light

call me

and every creature free to be

skies blue, unstacked

a clock just where we want

we misplace hate

we empty police out of our pockets

we creature on

imagine

no one tells us what to say, to do

it’s easy to join

you’re already here

greed is over if you want it

war as well

and, so it follows, hunger

we’re home!

come to the vanishing of borders

nations out in the garbage bin

and tell me please how it is you came

I want to imagine

because every one has a different story

here’s edge of mine

a world not run by the power drunk

but turns all by itself

imagine an enthusiasm

to be the open book

where everyone may read

and can

a poem in the library

song in all that is seen

imagine the trees stand up for themselves

an axe to fell whoever comes

with an axe to fell

it’s never an eye for an eye though now

take down the judgement seat

imagine the withered away state

and how we’ll celebrate!

we play the ruins

we remain

and all toil play

in the picture – a garden!

imagine history learned from

science led to truth

no kings, no crowns

the statues down

great hearts hold

so secret selves

but now we’ll tell

all prayers returned to sender

for immediate action

I call this world bettering

I call this planetlove

it won’t matter where

how far you go

and –

take your time for it

though time is running out

raspberry

squeaky kiss tells the heart –

but can you imagine?

please do!

I promise I won’t interrupt

these are only the first steps –

a way to begin the conversation

towards our making so
