the shadows of the
track
are cast
a breeze because
and have another grammar
neither here nor there
they show not quite
no, never the same
leaf sway, bend
wings through too –
shadow and now gone
where will the eye be next?
a glimpsing!
so the track winds from sight
footfalls like shadows too
roots throw themselves
the soil seen through
tumble of fern
a palette of lichen
angophora, fig
cradle stone
this is how earth’s held
daybright so the shadows tell
as mirror where
reflections of the stream stood still
are of the day above
and follow
dell down
brackish now
mid-mangrove, tide out
cast of sticks
other ages glimmer in
as boats to a moment’s harbour
we see because we’re there
