#254 - there was this planet where...

254

there was this planet where

it doesn’t begin here but

where we come in

one animal – just the one

(that’s what we call those moving)

ate all the others

took down all the stillness grew

and yes, they were warm for a while

it’s true

gods are wagging their tales

gods are shaking their heads

mind you, only one we know

kept tumbling along

and nowhere to land

made this thing called money there

made a lot of smoke

ghosts

given up

or gone to ground

but not an atom lost

old sod

everything beside itself

always an emergency somewhere

hard not to generalize

shat in the sea

piled their own leaving skyward

(that was the up thing, heaven touched)

toys were never put away

just the one sun

the one moon, mind you

though many bones were thrown for fancy

life began as a kind of self-managed cooperative of the fittest

always the gerrymander

everyone had to eat

trill of the branches and limb along

feathered escape

think of it as a foxtrot

no one could agree

why how who

what was the right?

question on nobody’s lips just then –

do you know where you live?

there was music

spherical

and called blue dot from far

though I doubt they were looking

round around

that’s how it went

and tickle you under there
