haywire
ekphrastic for Helen Wright’s ‘the collapse of
fun’
in Launceston’s QV Art Gallery
having
climbed this way to be where
you
swallowed all
spun like a
gear lost
coiled for a
spring
symmetries
slipped and flung
a wheel of
birds now gone
lifting
who’ll
argue?
little
wheels fan vast machines
we’re all
among the stars
a field
thereof packed tight
tricked in
with distance
near
occlusion
each
whirring soundlessly
we won’t
call it a tune
won’t say words
not to be known
these wild tails
wag us all
