summer glare
ekphrastic for Tom Roberts’ 1888 ‘Holiday
Sketch at Coogee’
salt
glitter!
the sea may
have ‘its pearls’
the bright
sand draws
it’s time
retired
frock along
and brolly
under
there’s
every fond illusion here
bent to the
shade we make
glare makes
ghostly
the top hat
cheering crowd
a track
makes away with the hill
with the day
tree spindly
as the last thing thought
a beach is
carved from stone
beyond these
waves not far lies home
