old tricks
concert piece for
Paul Dukas’ ‘L’apprenti sorcier’
imagine a magic hat
vast shadow ears under
eery chord kick off, the conjure wander
a bucket weary spilling
no ordinary course of events
now bent to some devil’s will
up bubble lilt
stairs aspiration
sleep is catching
what a dream of stars
cloudfall. lightning, sea rise
one falls afloat
then axe murder
a broom is many, split
a forest march
dire drama, up the pitch
ledge edges to a cliff
slow groan
here comes the insistence
no turning back
white water gurgle hole rafting
where in the book may we be saved?
almost stall at the catastrophe
then hope’s last glimpse
and gone
here’s Moses
all wrath and ‘back to work!’
you get a kick in the pants
