a brickwork splash
ekphrastic for Paul Klee’s
1936 ‘Stricken City’
track through
you see the quarters of the town washed
stuck now
time is a midst of theirs
we know the river dry
take these same old signs
trick of a roof
the glass upends
now tomb
the bells in not words
we work from a stain
into the day
the all falling
you’ll find me there
just bite
it’s daylight
lost to the dream
amber cast
ekphrastic for Klee’s 1920
Redgreen and violet yellow rhythms
(Cubist construction)
a now and then tree
and lamplight
we’re boxed
and a fading
everything’s as if
so to the edge and far
just as hidden
something hangs
one might pull on it
who knows?
here are the strings of the score
this nothing still shot through with world
it’s almost where we are
