because

everyone is who they are

and loves

is loved

 

blame me for what I choose if you must

but better

let’s just accept

 

a body is

and if not

 

sequins and glitter

how we progress

 

the animal everyone is

has its must

 

no one can tell the body away

no one can untell a truth

 

the thousand years

no thousands

spat upon, taunted, burned

 

there was hiding

in a hollow

in plain sight

inside

and just for being a self

 

so

all those robbed of lives

of loves

 

let us remember them

 

one would like to say ‘never again’

 

but think of those sixty nine narrow countries today

and nine of them prescribing death

that’s right now, in 2023

for loving whom you like

 

if that doesn’t anger you, what will?

so every step of the march

must mourn

 

there are wrongs we all must stand to right

then one brave paw after another

then bright the streets

with pride!

imagination!

make them guess!

our civilization!
