time will not pass between us
wherever whenever
it will be then
just as it was
as we were
each in other’s eyes
hail!
though with our wisdom
a world of less wars
things are cheaper too
no intervening
but that we have lived
it was a dream
have we the curtains?
nor so hard a sun
much was milkcrate eking
wherever whenever we meet
it is then
trees less
the street returns
all the calendar vanities crumble
there haven’t been the plagues
we dressed as for the time
drove, if at all, what we could
afford
a well used world
everyone was alive
you could stay up all night
go terrace to terrace
kitchen, front steps
the body pleasures
its punishments all novel
mull
none knew the golden age
or sat the bough to sing
we were…?
what were we then?
blank slates, much wept
acheless, everything yet to make
you see how we’ve survived
do we look up?
there was weekend then
we will compromise later
the alarm clock won’t be invented
we’re in bed
and it’s never the morning
where we wake
not after such a night
