wisdom of Snufkin
the philobond
for a Moomin series –
birthday poem for Heidi Solhoff
wide brim
and some say shabby
it’s the curling up
it’s the fond abscond
all to do as I please
one may have been born under such a hat
pipe to puff along
give everything away and go
be carried
whim for a tune
up in a tree
like most the stars
shun signs
admired among the least
and humble secret so
go by harmonica shine
adventure more
the less you are
the more you are unknown
by campfire
lit in a cave
as if by accident of adventure
(dangers nothing)
it’s to nowhere
to no place at all
mustn’t have a name
the solitude of freedom such
take a word for now
let go
words are always a dangerous journey
south for the winter
back for the spring
nobody knows where I am
and least I
everything on my back
is the nothing that I’ll need
make a poem just like this
and vanish in that far
