on chainsaw Saturday
out here
distances hidden
valley all wires
transmits
a truth be told
a still cloud march
leaves shine held
and come to this
I light the fire
I love my neighbour’s tree
all reaching till
each way it will
all moss and lichen lovely
and though I can’t
I play the piano
a pause in the hostilities
then creatures bend an ear
vines climb
too many of us
they too few
tall to its death
from whom
so tells
the sky
the tree
it’s bringing the sun to its
knees
it’s felling the light
the creek’s thrill wasted
whenever a giant comes down
