ponto kondukis for

trans la maro

 

neniu iam pensis flosi

aŭ staru sur la akvo

 

ĝis hodiaŭ la ponto daŭras

 

ĉiam pli danĝera

trovante fundon por pilonoj

 

ni estas preter vido de iu bordo

ĉu nun estas ia maniero iri hejmen?

kio se ni venis tro malproksime por piedoj

aŭ por radoj?

 

iam la ponto eble forlavos

 

antaŭ ol tio venos

ĉu ni lernos

se estas alia bordo

aŭ se ĉi tiu mondo estas ronda?

 

 

a bridge

 

a bridge led off

across the sea

 

no one had ever thought to float

or stand upon the water

 

to this day the bridge goes on

 

ever more hazardous

finding bottom for pylons

 

now beyond all sight of land

and what if there’s no going home?

what’s if it’s too far for feet

for wheels?

 

one day the bridge may wash away

 

before that comes

will we have learned

if there is another shore

or if this world is round?
