heal country
NAIDOC week, 2021
the heart is speaking
again
who’ll listen?
who’ll sign up for
heart?
skin and sun and
country for flag
who will tell the
stars?
remember
make memorial
not far away
but here!
the country a poem
the country a song
the country a story
needs to resolve
remember the lost, the
stolen, the scarred
mourn the great theft
we all possess
(some more than others
though)
will you tell me who’s
dreaming?
a name plucked out of
one dead language
could kill some
hundreds more
nation and sovereign,
the foreign flag
the head down and the
eyes away
the ‘I didn’t do it’ or
‘everyone did’
all this ‘don’t look at
me’… adds up
have you seen how the wounds
are growing?
do you know how they
heal?
begin on the journey
let rivers run
respect fire
tell the old times
tell the country was
keep the old words remaining
alive
we need all in for this
and listen!
that’s the big first
thing
hail flimsy hearts to
hold all truth
will you tell me – who’s
dreaming now?
who’s afraid of the
country’s core?
who’s afraid of the
wisdom?
ask
and be the question
all are welcome here
