consider free will
thinking some Chagall thoughts
I give you a hat
mine to give, how otherwise?
put ourselves in the
box
paint, claw ladder
call inside the coffin a
tree
feather it with arc of flight
all our own work there
kings of the book, gone
none will remember
someone’s a name
laughed to scorn
as every green thing
goes where it will
grows over itself
east by Nod to whimsy
so
shoot an arrow at the
city
bear trumpets for the
walls
consider free will
such as infinite wisdom
allows
on such a day as last
never yet knowing
I am walking through a
forest of words
some sage and others
sing
well deeps
read the leaves there
the sky in the book
goes up forever
who bears ark about?
who takes up the
judgement seat?
who can help where why
what fate?
no one asks these
things in the dream
music from the Bible
all praise imagined
cloven and manger
ox so star
din of voices
clash of steel
will for free
for liberty & death
often it rains in the
book as well
far where the radio won’t
reach
we run the rumour out
all sleeping soundly
there
