#500 - view to the windows

view to the windows

ekphrastic for Matt Bromhead’s ‘Thirty Views West’ (2020)

cartoonery

cast of shadows

squiggle figure interrupting

land-skip

queues curly

taut spells of a magic script

these secrets have trusted me

haloes saintless

spun up

trace

each edifice separate, sparing

own DNA

and must have been a message

then or once and now

rungs of fire foregone

and the soil of it floats over

things face dark and deeper

lines travel

peter, smudge and blur

formations of the moth in squadron

some leaning

some right round the bend

these marks of crawling into a question

who will call them trees?

they’re flame

they’re handheld jetsam

roots and floaters

flights of mote bent

everyone hums along here

strings of each pointing

with unconnected riff

shoelace lit, notated

villages and blank between

the angry stab of pencil

a casual drift off afoot

and who’ll see

cloud map of lost kingdom?

each points

the pond and its lilies upcast

this graphic description of lost thought

and when the signifier floats by

dot dot dot

no one will ever the wiser

here are the islands of come when you call

a dance up trill

of the flower let free

little pictures of nothing at all
