#506 - a great victory (poem for Gaza)

21.v.21

506

a great victory

sixty seven children dead

these murders

(nothing personal

twenty to one, who’ll take those odds?)

a great victory

count in corpses, if you can

count in rubble

count martyrs

smug, without a mandate but

take out the infrastructure for telling

make the struggle eternal

still the world stays tuned

everyone’s the little guy here

announce it with fire from the sky

the coffins of the children

the children surviving in fear

no food, no roof, no safe water

the hole where the home was

where the parents were

and some are still living in a bible

or some other nightmare

after all these years

beyond hope

who deserves

a surgical excision?

…and entertainment too

take out the tunnels

humans are shield

twenty to one

for how many generations?

people with nothing may dare

twenty to one

they know, they do

do you think the defeated are stupid

to stand up again?

sins of the fathers

here’s visiting upon

let the world see hear feel

no inch of anything ceded

but the soul

the sixty seven kids gone

and the settlement goes on

like any euphemism

cut the head off the beast

drive them into the sea

there’s always a bigger bully

this is how victims can do no wrong

yes, these are war crimes

here’s politics by distraction

and war is a crime as well

all for peace and security

ask where are the weapons from

please tell me which nation

wasn’t stolen

please tell me which nation

wasn’t just a bad idea

and what do kids know?

hunger and hatred

so we, so far off

own this too

here of rote empire

once voted this

and now

we close our eyes
