gadgetry

a perruque

something reflexive

a drone poem?

it all began with the creepy crawly

(I know that the spelling is wrong)

primeval, swamp of winter left to leaves

crept up to dry bones and so

the mower, the vac that make their own way

and take up croquet, dice pets

moderns always imagine

the age named after…

lead us not into proliferation

batteries include

hedge trimmer, hairdresser

socks that pull themselves up

then came the self drive car truck train

but long before any such

was it worm first?   before it got into my ear

there must have been the self-motivated amoeba

(wanted just to get on)

imagine, if you will, the first fly that flew

what’s the matter with matter?

a slippery slope of best intention

suddenly single use plastic

now the house decides its own lifestyle

the factory what to make

a lift goes up

who’ll bring it down?
that voice is pushing my buttons

they speak unbidden –

mechanical animals of farmyard

pets with each its own agenda

scale up to

world gadget

turns black to light –

call it the day machine

and just to get a good night

drugs that take themselves

languages like that too

there’s auto-credulity –

dream-mobile

infernal – a topple

hell’s way paved

the seed on wheels

the grain in its accusation

truth that tells itself

and won’t stop

with sound and image – can’t shut the thing up

likewise the automatic lie

mind with its further and outward conjurings

especially concerns who we are

immediate nextness for the record

image blur stain on consciousness

the book that reads itself to itself

mustn’t disturb

sensational gizmo –

could call it a body

full of spares

and still falling apart

thingamajig and whatsit too

tick tock

all familiar moves

short attention span

a 3D universe is printing itself

therefore territory more than the map

scratch through for an underbliss

can we even call these tricks?

take footnotes – they become the text

Stepford wives and husbands

the golem, the zombie

the wound up vampire

all primitive approximation

big words for merest breath

wizard at the levers

best not to be an early adopter

it’s safer behind the curve

watch out for a self-fly chainsaw, madam/sir

it’s coming soon, your way
