talk’s
cheap
for godsbother
there are currently no black dwarves in the
universe
how can we make this right?
one might say
‘just wait a while’
or prefer the more pro-active approach
slip through a crack, lift leg on those pillars
fly home with a cudgel and where have you been?
stars one by one out
down
but not to earth
still waiting…
a ponder for such funerals
always one somewhere
spectacle on a speck we are …
a mere fifteen billion years in
would like to think someone’s watching
though this is vanishingly unlikely
that would be what it’s for
consider whistle and gone
bones of the hundred billion so far
(the us I mean and bugger the others)
consider the sources
universe as washing machine
tail in the mouth
something theory dragged in
eventually it will be the black hole era
there’ll be proton collapse for one and all
this is in ten million trillion trillion …
and quite a few more zeroes yet
I’d like you to consider a dense sphere of
electron degenerate matter
why not?
I’m looking for yellowshift, event approaching
serious business
black dwarves are gravity and not much else
they come after all the colours
and are particular hard to detect
as of and because of now there aren’t any
a solid hunch however
(if only religion would frame up like that)
we’re guessing here but
the broken arrows point every way
and in the mirror too …
wormholes to where?
dots too far to join
then what are the odds of imagination?
and what does your ticket say?
still with me?
consider the sources of illumination
imagine the lot symphonic
(on you-tube comes with a soundtrack)
wider, ever colder, further
faster and faster
(and this pretty well describes how existence
feels to those of my vintage or more)
and we call that stuff life
but it’s rare
and yes still hotter towards the middle
a decreasing rate of collapse has been theorized
personally, I can’t see it
time!
and I warm myself with the void
hack back to size
count in the trillions
just for nostalgia
another galaxy turned up
unannounced and uninvited
just when you thought the lights were out for good
(the further back the more you see
… things were tighter then)
but this was a zombie, as it turned out
not wishing to seem determinist
but it had to be
you can build things out of black holes
of course you’ll need some know-how
time, the energy of course
physics now suspects
a sea of photons towards zero kelvin
and that was the light of long lost stars
perhaps not quite a wrap yet
a headsup here –
the nothing that happens is forever now!
at last one you can hang a hat on
but that was just this universe
run down
or run away
you decide!
there are various eternities, to choose or not
the dark is most of it
who’ll say ‘this too will pass’?
consider a lifeboat universe
cast adrift self
or some other solipsism
the work to make unmeaning is time
we have to ask ourselves, don’t we –
what is to be done?
is science progress?
make your observations
I think that the pre-Socratics
may well have been further along with
atoms, eternity, flux and fire
or, further back
far back on vinyl
it’s what Uncle Jim said in the sixties
‘no eternal reward will forgive us now
for wasting the dawn’
