from many

shift the terrible oneness

 

now we all can breathe

 

I hear you   

each equally

take a little voice to heart

and sometimes amplify

least creatures

 

make tracery of comfort, care

 

turn gun on itself for a biblical turn

smart, in the fashion of ploughshares

 

set to

 

a moment like this

and it comes to me

 

mind’s exercise to meet

here in a world that was falling apart

beyond the echoes

 

step lightly over the narcissist’s swamp

we shall not say the name again  

 

ramp up

 

must care to understand

must understand to care

 

pressed on in conversation

listening for a truth

watching even harder for

first glimmers of the open heart
