you can almost see
one life in
another
the kitchen cupboards from the floor
along a corridor
some doorway
the backdoor
round the corner, laundry
the mulberry, the washing line
you can almost reach back
can almost see
cigarettes on the table too high to touch
you’ve left the keycard
can’t remember the room number
the place has become a maze
Green Capstans
there’s a pace to all this
you’ll come to a mirror
who’ there?
one thought overtakes another
now in the cradling arms of almost
veranda view
the bay view blue
sky
weed wash close
and the rubbish
what was it on my plate?
it’s as if you almost know
all the selves before
you could invent the alphabet
to spell out the words
to call a name
up too close
taste the fire
drum of it rusted
the rhyme remembers us
the who and where we were
you can almost count
almost tell the time
can you imagine?
would you know where to begin?
